Welcome Larry to the MACvet Mindset
Larry’s mom recognized the value of a dedicated anesthesia specialist for her cat’s dental procedure. Dr. Gaby joined his primary vet team from intake to recovery — with real-time teaching along the way.

Meet Larry — the latest patient to join the MACvet Mindset. Larry’s mom works in the veterinary field, and when he needed much-needed dental work, she recognized the value of having a dedicated anesthesia specialist on his care team.
Cats are not small dogs. They have unique anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology that require special consideration under anesthesia, and a dental procedure adds another layer of complexity — shared airway, painful stimulation, and prolonged anesthetic time. We were grateful to partner with Larry’s primary vet team to make sure his anesthesia and procedure went purrrfectly.
A Specialist From Start to Finish
Dr. Gaby joined Larry and his care team at MyVet Chicago for the entire procedure — from premedication and induction through maintenance, dental treatment, and recovery. Having a board-certified anesthesiologist solely focused on monitoring meant the rest of the team could concentrate on the dental work itself, knowing Larry’s vitals, depth, and comfort were in dedicated hands.

Tailored to a Feline Patient
Feline-specific anesthesia considerations guided every step of Larry’s plan — from drug selection and dosing, to airway management, to thermoregulation and blood pressure support. Cats are especially sensitive to hypothermia and hypotension under anesthesia, and small changes can have outsized effects on recovery.

Teaching in Real Time
One of the things we love most about partnering with primary care teams is the in-the-moment learning that happens during a case. Larry’s overall anesthesia was smooth, and his care team picked up new anesthesia skills with Dr. Gaby there to coach, troubleshoot, and explain decisions as they happened — from drug choices, to monitor trends, to recovery planning.
Every case is an opportunity to strengthen the whole team’s comfort and confidence with anesthesia, so the next patient benefits too.
Larry’s Family Says
“I chose to have an anesthesiologist involved in my cat’s dental procedure and it made all the difference. Even though I’m a veterinarian, when it comes to my own cat, I’m still just a pet owner — with all the same nerves and worries. Knowing that a specialist was solely dedicated to monitoring anesthesia and keeping my cat safe gave me real peace of mind.
The entire process felt smooth and well-coordinated. Dr. Gaby was incredibly easy to work with — communicative, professional, and reassuring every step of the way. It truly took so much of the stress out of the experience for both me and Larry — I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.”

Back to Couch Cuddles
Larry is now back to couch snuggle sessions with his mom — smiling through life with just a few less teethers than before. We’re grateful to have been part of his care team, and to every primary vet team that invites us in.
MACvet is here to help patients and vet teams feel supported from intake to recovery — whether that’s a routine dental, a high-risk surgery, or anything in between.
